Van Gaal made headlines this week when he denounced the decision to host the World Cup in the Middle East as “ridiculous”. But Al Thawadi thinks Qatar has the same right as any other country when it comes to being chosen to host the biggest tournament in the world.

He said: ” First of all, I would like to say: for someone with many years of experience, who understands how powerful football is, it is ridiculous to make such a statement . trying to understand what football means to Qatar and the Arab world.”

Van Gaal has criticized the World Cup being held in Qatar.

“He should take some time to see what the recent Arab Cup means for the people here. Then he will see the passion in the Arab world, then he will see the football that has. what it means to us.”

“It is not an unreasonable notion for an Arab country to host the World Cup.”

The former Ajax, Barcelona and Manchester United manager, previously said: “I’ve mentioned it in press conferences before. I think it’s ridiculous that the World Cup is still there. We’ll play in a different place. the country where FIFA says they want to develop football there. It’s all bullshit. It’s about money, it’s about commercial interests. That’s the problem in FIFA.”
