Popp’s double breaks the record for a Wembley clash with England

Alexandra Popp scored in a record match at the Women’s European Championship for the fifth consecutive year, with she double shot in Germany to win 2-1 against France in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

The Wolfsburg striker hit the target in each of Germany’s four wins en route to four finals and open the score in Milton Keynes with a pass after 40 minutes.

Franceplay at this stage for the first time against Germany’s 10th record, equalize through an attack by Kadidiatou Diani that hit the post and missed the post by Merle Frohms.

Although Germany was the second best country for most of the second period, Popp happened again at 76 minutes to set up a duel with the servers England at Wembley on Sunday.
