10 – Charles Itandje
Itandje joined Liverpool from Lens club. He is considered a backup plan for goalkeeper Pepe Reina. In total, Itandje has 7 main catches for The Kop in cup competitions. In December 2010, goalkeeper who transferred to Kavala on loan from The Kop.
9 – Sebastian Leto
Liverpool signed Leto from Lanus for 1.85 million pounds. Leto has 2 appearances in the League Cup, Champions League. Unfortunately, Leto is not eligible for a license to play in the Premier League.
“I am really disappointed by this. He played in the Champions League, played for Argentina at the Olympic Games. You can see how highly the coaches rate him. I think the system needs to change,” coach Rafa Benitez said in 2008.
Leto parted ways with Liverpool and joined Greek teams Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, respectively.
8 – Ryan Babel
Babel was considered one of the brightest talents in Europe when he arrived at Anfield from Ajax. Unfortunately, Babel did not perform as expected and was pushed to Hoffenheim in 2011.
“ Both the coach and the coaching staff didn’t help me enough. At 20, you need help, you need a lot of advice…. However, I didn’t get any help from anyone at Liverpool,” Babel told AS in 2016.
7 – Damien Plessis
Plessis joined Liverpool at the age of 19. In his early days, he mainly played in the youth teams of The Kop. In April 2008, Plessis made his debut for the first team when Liverpool drew 1-1 with Arsenal. The fierce competition for positions made the 33-year-old midfielder pop out of Anfield. In 2010, Plessis transferred to Panathinaikos club.
6 – Ryan Crowther
Ryan used to play for Stockport County before joining Liverpool in 2007 with a contract worth £ 300,000. Ryan mainly plays in The Kop youth teams.
The Englishman’s career was dismal at Anfield as he did not play a first-team match before leaving Liverpool in 2009.
5 – Lucas Leiva
The former Brazilian national player spent his peak years with Liverpool. Leiva has 10 years with the Merseyside team, making a total of 346 appearances. In 2017, Leiva moved to play for Lazio.
4 – Nikolay Mihaylov
Despite his unconvincing performance in the Levski Sofia club shirt, Mihaylov was still signed by Liverpool in 2007. However, the Bulgarian goalkeeper did not get a work permit in England. Nikolay spent 3 years playing on loan at FC Twente before being bought by the Dutch club.
3 – Krisztian Nemeth
Nemeth once received great expectations when landing at Anfield from MTK Budapest. Contrary to expectations, Nemeth did not have the opportunity to break into the first team. He drifted to Blackpool and AEK Athens as a mercenary before being bought out by Olympiacos in 2010.
2 – Andras Simon
Similar to Nemeth, Simon did not have the opportunity to break into the Liverpool first team. For the 2009/2010 season, Simon joined Cordoba CF on loan from The Kop. In December 2010, Simon terminated his contract with Liverpool.
1 – Peter Gulacsi
Goalkeeper Gulacsi joined Liverpool on loan from MTK Budapest before The Kop bought him permanently in 2008. Gulacsi mainly played as a reserve goalkeeper, and also spent time on loan at clubs like Hereford, Tranmere and Hull City. In 2013, Liverpool sold Gulacsi outright to Red Bull Salzburg.
