Barca deadlocked with Dembele

Ousmane Dembele is unlikely to renew his contract with Barca and become a free agent after this season.

According to Mundo Deportivo , Dembele does not want to leave Barca during this mid-season transfer window, but also refuses to extend his contract. He decided to stay at the club for another 6 months, then became a free agent to open the door to find a new destination.

The Barca elite have been impatient for Dembele’s future for the past two weeks. They want Dembele to clarify whether to sign or leave in January. Barca does not want to lose Dembele, but the initiative is in the hands of the former Dortmund star.

On January 11, Dembele’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, publicly criticized coach Xavi. Sissoko said that coach Xavi was too hasty in putting Dembele back on the field after the striker had just recovered from Covid-19.

According to FIFA transfer laws, Dembele is free to negotiate with a new club.

Dembele and his agent Sissoko’s priority if they leave Barca is the Premier League. Clubs Chelsea, MU, Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle are said to be making a move to recruit Dembele for free.

Juventus and PSG are the next two potential destinations for the French striker.

Barca spent 140 million euros to recruit Dembele from Dortmund. This is a deal for the “Giant” of Catalonia to replace Neymar. However, Dembele was disappointing because he suffered too many injuries during his time with Barca.

In nearly five seasons, Dembele made 128 appearances for Barca, scoring 31 goals and providing 24 assists. The striker born in 1997 had no history of injury before joining Barca. But at Camp Nou, he suffered at least six different injuries. In particular, the hamstring and knee are the two most serious problems of Dembele.

Statistics from Transfer Markt show that the French player had to miss nearly 700 days due to injury at Barca.
