Landing at Feyenoord through a loan deal this past summer, in fact, Reiss Nelson is strongly disappointing when he has only contributed 1 assist after 13 appearances.
Sharing about Nelson, coach Arne Slot admitted that he expected more from this young star. Talking to Voetbal International, the captain of Feyenoord shared (quoted by Sport Witness and Arseblog):
“Talent is there, but what Reiss still struggles with is creating great opportunities for himself or his teammates. You see a lot of skill, speed and agility. But, the final blow is still missing.”
“The hardest thing in football is to give your best. And if you’re playing for Feyenoord, where you’re usually positioned as a promising winger, you’ll expect a higher performance .”
“Anyway, I don’t think Reiss is the type of player to score a lot of goals. I didn’t see him do that in practice either. But in Hoffenheim, in the Bundesliga, he scored seven goals. That was excellent.”
“Against NEC [Nijmegen], I noticed that Reiss immediately looked for his direct opponent when he had the ball, which was still lacking in the match against Vitesse.”
“I think Reiss is more of a pitcher than a finisher, but I believe Reiss will show he can do better.”
